The Last Airbender Update

Postby fastfood on Tue Jun 23, 2009 10:23 am

The new teaser trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender is now online

http://www.thelastairbendermovie.com/

If you don't know about this movie already let me fill ya'll in: Based on the hugely successful Nickelodeon animated TV series, the live-action feature film is set in a world where human civilization is divided into four nations: Water, Earth, Air and Fire.

The Fire Nation is waging a ruthless, oppressive war against the other three nations. The film's hero, the reluctant young Aang (Noah Ringer), is the "Last Airbender" -- the Avatar who, according to prophecy, has the ability to manipulate all of the elements and bring all the nations together. Aided by a protective teenage Waterbender named Katara (Nicola Peltz) and her bull-headed brother Sokka, Aang proceeds on a perilous journey to restore balance to their war-torn world.

I've been watching the animated series, finally, and damn if that isn't a great show. I'd never watched it because I missed episode 1 and was never able to catch up, so I figured I'd see it on DVD and now it's coming through Netflix. Good stuff, and I'm looking forward to the movie.

I can never look forward to anything that M. Night Shyamalan does since everything he did after "Unbreakable" sucked major donkey balls.

I never liked this show. Watched the first two or three and was bored to tears. The only thing that interests me less than traditional Eastern storytelling is when the Western world imitates it.

Wow, that was a funny retort, but you seem a little unhappy. I suggest calling your mommy and asking for a hug.

I'd rather call yours. She gives me "special" hugs.

I watched the first 4 or 5 episodes, from Netflix, and I liked it -- I thought it was one of the few American cartoons that approaches the richness of Japanese anime, in terms of story, dialogue, and visuals. I'll probably watch more eventually, when I've got some free time; although I might wait until after the movie comes out, partly because I probably won't have time before then, and partly because that removes any risk of my disliking the movie because of stuff they changed that I liked about the original.

The Airbender website has it and the previous trailer, in high def.

There's some gorgeous stuff in these. I'm really looking forward to the movie, and I'm really looking forward to watching Noah Ringer (Aang) work. The kid was a martial artist before he got the gig, so I'm hoping for a really elegant physical performance from him.
