Straczynski Steps Up For "Superman" & "Wonder Woman"

For the first time in my adult life, I'm now tempted to read Wonder Woman.

I must confess that I'd be amused if the book's numbers go up after Gail leaves it. ;-)

Her star is falling or is it just me who thinks that?

I don't know... but people were sure clamoring about how exciting it was that she was writing Wonder Woman, and now she's leaving after, what, a year? Year and half? Not much of a run, if you want to be a definitive writer for the character.

Excellent news. Unfortunately JMS is the new writer and that doesn't bode well.

I don't know... I liked his writing on The Twelve -- I didn't care enough to get past The Five, but it was more like a well written story that just wasn't my thing. And he wrote a great Thor. If he can write the God of Thunder, maybe he can write the pseudo-goddess of whatever the hell she's the pseudo-goddess of.

The first time she died she was brought back as the Goddess of truth, but she stepped down from that to just being the goddess of 1 dimensional characters.

JMS just can seem to finish a story is all. The Twelve is a great example.

I was talking about this at my shop. He has a REALLY shit close ratio.
Rising Stars, last 4 issues over 3 years, and the ending sucked.
Spider-man: OMD, (even if it WAS editorial influence it still counts)
Twelve
Thor (left early because of Marvel editorial).

About half the things he's worked on have ended abruptly or poorly. I imagine both of these will be the same case.

At least for WW a solid opening would be a step in the right direction. I personally can't understand why DC hasn't given her a major Byrne type re-boot. Hell, they might have, I wouldn't know, don't read it and even with JMS on board, still won't.

That was a lot of what her OYL book was supposed to be. Not really doing her origin over, but establishing her character. What being Wonder Woman meant, giving Diana a secret identity, rebuilding a supporting cast. But Heinberg couldn't do the book monthly so it floundered. Then it was tied in Amazons Attack which was horrible and the franchise fell further. Then Gail Simone came on, and she's written some OKAY stories, but nothing special.
But technically she DID get a relaunch chance at a clean slate, and it sucked. Like everything done with her. JMS will get a bump, her sales will go up, and then they'll drop back down and in 14 issues he'll be gone and someone else will be on. And it'll suck then too.
