WWP09: Battlestar Galactica Q&A

Battlestar Galactica Q&A

So I really don’t have much to say about this, it was Battlestar if your into the show you’ll find it interesting if your not? Then you’ll be bored with it. Be warned though what follows contains MAJOR SPOILERS and you shouldn’t read unless you watched the season final all the way through. What follows are highlights of the panel…

I was a little late to this and the room was PACKED! I had to sit in a little corner on the floor take notes. The Speakers were:

Edward James Olmos AKA Willian Adama

Michael Hogan AKA Saul Tigh

Nicki Clyne AKA Cally Henderson (super cute in person-D)

Luciana Carro AKA Louanne ‘Kat’ Katraine

Adama- “You guys made the best sci fi TV show ever made for television, The critics say this… not the Emmys… they’ll get it and then go “oops” .

Tigh-”My favorite scenes were by myself in Saul quarters… with my bottle”.

Adama-”It was the experience that I hold as the finest experience I’ve ever had the privilege to deal with”

-The Plan directed by Edward James Olmos88 minutes TV version. The DVD version 155 minutes

-The Boy with the Green Hair Easter egg in the Plan”

Luciana Carro had a great story about when she found out when her character was going to die.

“My roommate got the script early and she was reading it to me over the phone at LAX and she was really excited because my character was all over the script and then she said AND THEY PUT YOU ON THE MEMORIAL WALL!” And she didn’t know what that meant and I was devastated”.

Adama-”Most devastated scene I had was when Tigh tells me he was a Cylon”.

At this point Micheal Hogan keeps making jokes about how old Edward is and it’s pretty clear their friends and that Michael is the ‘funny’ one of the group.

-Adama destroying the model ship after Kara dies was improv. “They had that fake ship on loan and i destroyed it!”

Tigh was actually really angry when he found out his character was a Cylon.

“We were all wondering who the final five were. I didn’t actually believe them when they told me that I was one of the final five. I thought they were kidding me! “I actually thought it was cheap in the beginning”.

Tigh-”I had this argument with Ron when the wanted Tigh to go down to the planet because he’s a career soldier, but in the end it worked out and look as the story they gave me. It was great stuff”.

Tigh-I fought the writers telling them I would never say “I am a Cylon”.

-BSG really a showcase of feminist value with all the strong female characters.

-All of the actors are all well versed and clearly in love with the show.

-Hogan and Edward James Olmos are clearly good friends.

Adama-”When I choose to do a movie or a show I choose something because of the story… and Battlestar… what a story”.

-Adama’s favorite episode was “33″

Adama- “I didn’t know if i was going to survive after my assassination at the end of season 1″.

Question about  to the women about how they saw their characters grow throughout the show:

Cally-”I had to dig deep for some scenes because Cally is such a different person by the end of her time then she was on the beginning. Sometimes I didn’t like her”.

Kat-”I had the opposite effect because my character was kind of a bitch and I wanted her and star buck to become friends” .

Adama-”That because you were a better pilot than star buck” (GREAT insert by Edward Olmos here. I love how this guy basically is Tim Allen’s character in Galaxy Quest. He knows every episode and is clearly in love with the show-D)

-Edward James Olmos links BSG to Blade runner. Says his character in Blade Runner is a descendent of Adama. Connects Replicants to Cylons!

All that and they end the panel with a “So say we all!”

Totally awesome to see these guys and if your a big fan of the show like I was it was a blast to sit there and listen to these guys talk about the show with such passion that is rarely seen these days.

-D
